A Career Review can help you to:
Identify and improve your skills
Your Career Review will help you to identify your skills and how you can fill any gaps in your knowledge. Your adviser will talk you through your training options and can put you in touch with careers experts or courses to help you take the next step in your career.
As you get older, if you’ve not been in the job market for a while you do doubt your abilities. What you need somebody to do is say “Yes you are good at this, you’re excellent at that, you’ve got considerable skills in this area of work…” And that’s what I needed very much.
Build your confidence
A Career Review is a great place to start building the confidence to take control of your working life. You might have been out of work for a while, be considering a new career or want to start a business. Together with your adviser, you’ll discover the steps you need to take to reach your goals and deal with any concerns.
It gave me the confidence to apply for a job. Without the session I wouldn’t have seen the advert, but being able to sell my skills and promote myself in the way that I did do… I possibly wouldn’t have been able to do without that session.
Prepare for retirement
Retirement no longer has to be the cliff-edge it once was. A quarter of the UK workforce is over 50 and many of us are choosing to stay in work later. A Career Review can be a great way to plan the next 10, 15 or even 20 years of your working life.
You might be thinking about moving into a different role at work, changing your working patterns, or want to find out when would be the best time to retire. A Career Review will look at how your job might change over the coming years and help you think about how and when you might retire.
